Penitent Magdalene of Titian



This Penitent Magdalene by Ticiano Vecellio, Titian, was auctioned today at Dorotheum auction house in Vienna.

The painting has recently been rediscovered and after its study it has been determined that it is the painting that was thought to be missing and had belonged to such illustrious collections as those of Queen Christina of Sweden (1629-1689) and Philip II, Duke of Orléans (1674-1723).

The work was estimated at between 1,000,000 and 1,500,000 euros, but the realized price has been 4,818,000 euros.
